I met an entrepreneur friend of mine few days back. It's really a praiseworthy thing in this world of job-seekers, that this young graduate was trying to follow his own path.
He was working in the field of food processing. He explained the entire setup, his future plans for the business, the opposition he is facing from his family. Out of curiosity, I asked him what in his business will be so different that people will prefer his product over the other established brands. In fact I always have this question in mind regarding all the new start ups. As almost every new technique and technology available for everyone, what will be the 'x-factor' that will make any organisation stand apart?
The answer I got was as follows- the future of any organisation, be it private, be it government, will depend upon the ethical administration in it. Only ethical organisations will survive in future. Many of the big brands today are unfortunately following grossly unethical practices. In the processing unit of W-Brand in Bangladesh, recently there was explosion in which hundreds of laborers packed up in just 3 rooms lost their lives. Union Carbide's irresponsible behavior is responsible for Bhopal Gas tragedy. Recently Volkwagon, Suzuki admitted that they cheated during the fuel emission testings, cars mileage testings etc.
Even at individual level, let's consider two district collectors with same number of service and at same rank in hierarchy. Both will get similar facilities, almost equal number of people working in their teams. But why, many a times, only one of them performs?
The answer lies in ethical behavior of individual, organisation. And ethical behavior isn't only in letters but in spirit as well. Just following laws and rules won't make you ethical.
Thus in this world, where everyone is equally knowledgeable, equally endowed with capacities, what will make difference is the ethical conduct.
