Prelims Preparation Last Days tips by Mukul Kulkarni ( AIR 238, UPSC CSE 2015- IRS-IT)

What to do 12 days before Prelims?

Mr. Mukul Kulkarni
(AIR 238)
Part 2 of prelims series and the last! Have tried to keep it as short and concise as possible as I know time is less and all of you must be neck deep in your studies!
- Revise and revise and revise- 7 subjects and almost 2 weeks remaining- 2 full revisions must be completed of all subjects- maybe 1 subject each day or according to your convenience

- don't solve too many comprehensive tests or even module tests. Now stop solving module tests. Can solve max 2 comprehensive tests. One for each of the remaining two weeks. But do practice solving questions everyday. Questions, not papers. Maybe an hour or so is quite fine.

- solve at least 2 csat papers in the required time limit of 2 hours each Don't take csat lightly. If u are getting good marks in 2 papers ,that should be sufficient

- just scan newspaper headlines. No detail reading and no notes making. Max 20 minutes for newspapers everyday not more than that
- for the day just before the exam, revising everything is not possible. So just scan through all the sources and revise just that part which you think is difficult for you to remember
- increase your study hours. If u were putting in 8 hours,now put 10. If u were putting in 10 hours,put 12
- don't take stress. Remember that along with information, confidence is a very essential thing for prelims. So be confident that you can solve those questions where there is a doubt between 2 options or you do not know one option or where you know nothing ( like Jon snow). Believe that you can score good marks. Belief is extremely important. Do not have negative thoughts about the exam and the results
decide which pen to use on the D-day. Usually prefer a blunt tip pen as that helps in darkening the circles faster. I use a Reynolds liquiflo black but that is your choice. But decide that now itself. Don't keep it for the last moment. Keep a few spare pens as well. Including a blue one for signatures and other stuff
- download the hall ticket and get it printed at least a week before the exam. Don't keep it for 10 pm on 6th of August
- minimum attempt has to be around 90 for any kind of paper. If paper is easier then around 95. However how much to attempt between 90-100 depends on you. If u believe you are good at logic building and get right answers for logical attempts then go for maximum attempt. If not, then keep it on the lower side of 90-100
- don't think about cut offs. Being at the margins will do no good for your mains preparations. So aim for 120+ always. Remember low aim is a crime and that is true for civil services as well.
- lastly, eat healthy, avoid outside foods, drink plenty of water and practice a few minutes of meditation everyday to keep yourselves healthy. There can be nothing, absolutely nothing, without health.
- so that's it den! All the best for the exam! The only thought in your mind should be to give your best. Result will take care of itself. Till then!
